Texas Instruments Analog eLAB: Powering Xilinx 7 Series FPGAs

Print Friendly
The Xilinx 7 series comprises three new FPGA families - Artix™-7, Kintex™-7 and Virtex®-7 - that deliver breakthrough power, performance and design portability. These families are the foundation for Xilinx next-generation domain-optimized and market-specific targeted design platforms. Texas Instruments works closely with Xilinx to recommend the best power solutions for a wide variety of applications. And, engineers can speed their design process by leveraging Texas Instruments' proven reference designs.

Avnet Electronics Marketing, Texas Instruments and Xilinx have teamed for a new series of Analog eLAB videocasts on Powering the Xilinx 7 Series FPGAs. Join Chris Ammann, Technical Marketing Engineer for Power at Avnet; Upal Sengupta, Product Marketing Manager at Texas Instruments; and Jameel Hussein, Technical Marketing Manager from Xilinx as they explore a variety of topics for powering these new FPGAs from Xilinx using TI solutions.

Using the new Kintex-7 development board, which features power supplies from Texas Instruments, subject matter experts look at power inside and outside the FPGA with the end goal of promoting significant power savings in your next design. Efficiency is explored inside the FPGA through power saving tools and optimization, while efficient, flexible and low cost options are offered for powering 7 series FPGAs. Along the way, these experts will examine how to maximize power design to take advantage of the latest technology and products.

  • Video 1 - Power Inside the Xilinx 7 Series FPGAs: Optimizing power architecture design inside the FPGA through applying a holistic approach to reducing FPGA and system power. In this segment of the video series, we are going to look at power inside versus power outside. What this refers to is how the power can be designed inside the FPGA through power saving tools and optimization while power outside the device refers to your actual power architecture design using different types of point of load regulation. Inside defines what you need, outside delivers it to you.

Video 2 - Power Outside the Xilinx 7 Series FPGAs: Power requirements for the new Kintex-7 family. In this video we will discuss power outside the FPGA, specifically, the actual power supplies used to power the device. With the Kintex-7s lower power requirements and Texas Instruments’ latest families of small, low cost power solutions you can get your design to market even faster.
